The safety level of nuclear and radioactive facilities in Spain is the same as before the COVID-19 pandemic

The Spanish Nuclear Safety Council (CSN) informs that the level of safety of nuclear and radioactive facilities in Spain has not decreased despite the drawbacks due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

CSN continues working and fulfilling its duties through teleworking, high-level face-to-face meetings and maintaining permanent support in its Emergency Room. This means that the control and supervision of nuclear and radioactive facilities throughout the national territory is maintained at the same level that existed before this pandemic and with the same competences of the CSN's Emergency Response Organization.

Safety standards, supervision and monitoring methods remain within the highest international standards.

Indeed, all tasks are carried out maintaining the necessary preventive and hygiene measures to preserve people's health while they are at their workplace.

CSN is the only competent body in Spain for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection. Its mission is to protect workers, the population and the environment from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation, ensuring that nuclear and radioactive facilities are safely operated by licensees, and establishing prevention and correction measures for radiological emergencies, whatever their origin.
