The president of the CSN meets telematically with the INRA Plenary to discuss the topics that will be discussed at its 49th meeting

The president of the Spanish Nuclear Safety Council (CSN), Josep Maria Serena i Sender, met on 28th January afternoon, via videoconference, with the Plenary of the International Nuclear Regulators Association (INRA). In this meeting, the members of this association have been able to comment on their proposals for topics for the 49th meeting of INRA that will take place this spring in Japan.

In the first place, it has been decided to continue monitoring the problem and technological solutions planned for the treatment and future discharge of contaminated water at the Fukushima site. Likewise, among future regulatory challenges, the decommissioning of nuclear plants will be the focus of the debate together with new emerging technologies.

To continue, INRA members have also decided that organizational efficiency within regulatory bodies is another important topic to consider at their next meeting. At this point, the president of the CSN took the opportunity to present to his counterparts the results of the safety culture study that the Spanish regulator has carried out during the 2020-2021 period.

Finally, Sweden and France have given a brief update on group activities to improve the international convention process.

The International Nuclear Regulators Association (INRA), founded by the regulatory bodies of the nine countries in the world with more experience in the licensing of nuclear activities (Germany, Canada, Spain, France, Japan, United Kingdom, Republic of Korea, Sweden, and the United States of America) was created in Paris in May 1997.

INRA holds two meetings a year where regulatory issues of common interest are openly discussed. In this international association, transparency, multilateral cooperation and the exchange of experiences among the countries that compose it are promoted.
