Inspection types

There are various types of inspections carried out by the technical staff of the Spanish Nuclear Safety Council (CSN):

  • Those relating to licensing: these ensure that the licencing processes of the facilities are carried out according to the regulations on nuclear safety and radiation protection. This type of inspection is applied to the applications for licences that require a report from the CSN.
  • Control: these are carried out to ensure that the operation of the facilities meets the requirements on the basis of which the authorisation was granted. They involve both systematic periodic control inspections, aimed at checking the real operating conditions in the facility, as well as other occasional control inspections, without a set frequency.
  • Special: covering the CSN's inspection functions other than the above, arising as a consequence of incidents, exceptional situations of intervention in the event of a radiological emergency, violation reports, etc.
