The mission of the Spanish Nuclear Safety Council (CSN) is to protect workers, the population at large and the environment from the harmful effects of ionising radiation. It does this by ensuring that nuclear and radioactive facilities are operated safely and by establishing the preventive and corrective measures to apply in all radiological emergencies, no matter what their source.
The CSN’s Strategic Plan describes the Council’s goals, the instruments to be used to reach those goals and the method to be used to measure goal achievement. The Strategic Plan is implemented through annual plans.
Safety is the CSN’s fundamental objective, so, although there are other objectives, all other considerations come after this one: credibility and trust, efficacy and efficiency, transparency, neutrality and independence.
