The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has delivered to the Government of Spain, as well as to the institutions involved, the final report for the IRRS-ARTEMIS combined mission on Nuclear Safety, Radiological Protection and Radioactive Waste Management that took place in Madrid last October.
The final report, that can be consulted in the following link of the Spanish regulator website, includes the analysis and the results obtained from the examination of the Spanish regulatory framework for Nuclear and Radiological Safety carried out by the experts of the Integrated Regulatory Review Service (IRRS), as well as the evaluation of the management program of radioactive waste from our country executed by the team of the Integrated Review Service for Radioactive Waste and Spent Fuel Management, Decommissioning and Remediation (ARTEMIS, for its acronym in English).
The combined mission covered all the regulated nuclear facilities and activities as well as the framework and national program for the management of all types of radioactive waste and spent fuel in Spain. The group of experts met with the related institutions, including the Spanish Nuclear Safety Council (CSN, for its acronym in Spanish), the National Company of Radioactive Waste S.A. (Enresa, for its acronym in Spanish) and the Ministry for Ecological Transition (Miteco, for its acronym in Spanish), and observed regulatory inspections at sites such as a nuclear power plant, a nuclear fuel manufacturing facility and a large industrial radiography facility.
