Commissioner Javier Dies participates in the program committee of the next NESTet 2020 Conference on nuclear education and training

Commissioner Javier Dies from the Spanish Safety Nuclear Council (CSN), has participated in Brussels in the program committee of the next nuclear education and training NESTet 2020 that takes place every four years.

The NESTet 2020 conference has the aim of exchanging good practices as well as of facilitating the information and collaboration amongst all relevant stakeholders with responsibilities in training and knowledge management in science, technology and nuclear engineering.

During the course of the meeting several issues were addressed in order to integrate them within the conference programme, such as the creation of vocations in science and technology; talent acquisition and development; design of education and training programs for the different profiles of professionals working at nuclear and radioactive facilities; and the planning of national human resources and expertise needs in nuclear science and technology. It was also highlighted throughout the meeting the need to incorporate concepts of “project management”, as well as of physical security, into the training scheme.

Training at the CSN

The Spanish Nuclear Safety Council (CSN) pays particular attention to the training of all its staff since its creation. Through its yearly Training Plan, CSN establishes the annual forecast of the training activities, which are organized either internally or with the collaboration with specialized external organizations, and the participation of the CSN staff in activities organized by other institutions of very diverse geographical and thematic scope.

Currently, the CSN is launching a project to implement the training of its staff using the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) methodology. Likewise, the CSN also promotes and encourages the training of highly qualified experts in nuclear safety and radiological protection through the Chairs of three Spanish universities with which the CSN collaborates.
