The Steering Committee of the IAEA´s Global Nuclear Safety and Security Network defines its objectives for the coming years

The Steering Committee of the Global Nuclear Safety and Security Network (GNSSN) of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has held, on January 27th and 28th, a telematic meeting with the aim of presenting the latest progress in the work related to the definition of the new Terms of Reference, the Strategic Plan and the IT Platform of this Committee.

For the first time, the heads of the six regional networks (from Africa, Asia, Europe and Central Asia, Ibero-America and Arab countries) have participated in the decision-making process, including Rosbell Bosch, president of the Ibero-American Forum of Radiological and Nuclear Regulatory Agencies (FORO).

The meeting, led by the chaiman of the GNSSN, the Spaniard Alfredo de los Reyes, currently responsible for International Programs at the CSN, allowed the participants to discuss the composition of the Steering Committee, the working methodology and the financing of the GNSSN.

Regarding the Strategic Plan, after reviewing the mission and vision that define this network, the main objectives agreed for the 2021-2023 period have been analysed, as well as the Action Plan necessary to achieve these strategic goals aimed at giving greater visibility to the GNSSN, make it more useful to all stakeholders and bring tangible results to both the IAEA and regional networks.

Likewise, it has been approved the update and redesign of the webpage (https://gnssn.iaea.org/) to make it an information point of international reference for nuclear safety and security, radiation protection and all associated issues.

The GNSSN is a web platform that operates at a global, regional and national level to share information on nuclear safety and security matters, but also a human network to develop knowledge in this matter and thus contribute to the objective of achieving a high degree of safety and security worldwide.

The Network is part of an IAEA integrated methodology for the establishment of a capacity-building framework to support the national nuclear safety infrastructure in the Member States, helping to improve international cooperation and dialogue in the field of nuclear safety, as well as to harmonize national approaches to knowledge management. Its main members are information providers and network operators.
