Javier Dies, commissioner of the Spanish Nuclear Safety Council (CSN), has participated this morning in a virtual meeting of the International Nuclear Regulators’ Association (INRA) attended by the heads of the regulatory bodies of the eight most experienced countries in the world in the licensing of nuclear activities.

During the meeting, information was exchanged on the situation of the nuclear power plants in Ukraine after the Zaporizhzhya incident and it was agreed to write a letter to the Ukrainian regulator (State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine, SNRIU) offering all the necessary technical support that INRA members can offer.

INRA members are inquiring through the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Western European Regulators’ Association (WENRA), of which Ukraine is a member. From the information received, it can be concluded that there is currently no danger in terms of the safety of the Ukrainian facilities, nor have radiation levels been measured above the usual.

The International Nuclear Regulators Association (INRA), is constituted by Canada, South Korea, Spain, the United States, France, Japan, the United Kingdom and Sweden, and was created in Paris in May 1997.
