Working groups

Grupos de trabajo

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has many working groups whose members, all proven experts, are generally drawn from IAEA member countries. Their mission is to study, report on and advice on specific problems.

The Spanish Nuclear Safety Council (CSN) participates in a large number of working groups from the different areas of the IAEA’s technical programme. These include emergency preparedness and response, nuclear facilities, transport and storage of radioactive waste and spent fuel and the physical safety of nuclear facilities and materials.

In the area of emergency preparedness and response, the IAEA tackles the issues of training and instruction for emergency responders, exercises and drills, the development of emergency response plans, international sharing of information and assistance, the use of the INES scale to inform the public about the severity of a nuclear emergency and the lessons learned from historical accidents.

At the same time, there are working groups that focus on making the regulatory infrastructure stronger and on helping to foster transparency, openness, technical competence and efficacy in the regulatory agencies of the IAEA member countries.
